Union Customs Code Case Study

Key Results

Seamless integration of new processes

Achieved compliance with customs regulations

Avoided payment of import VAT and duty on certain goods

Developing, integrating and managing processes to ensure compliance with the Union Customs Code (UCC) for movements to the UKCS

Overview

A client required a full process to be written to ensure compliance with HMRC rules and regulations. As a new business, which started operating after the UCC rules came into effect in 2016, the client had no existing customs procedures in place. Full procedures were to be drafted and implemented without causing any delays to operations.

Approach

LS Customs gathered the information required to apply for a duty suspension special procedure – end use. We also performed outbound and backload gap analyses and developed new processes from scratch which included the required customs formalities.

We collaborated closely with the full supply chain team to ensure that new processes integrated seamlessly with existing processes and to ensure that vendors and suppliers understood what would be required from them going forward.

Deliverables

Our support allowed the client to become compliant with both the existing customs rules as well as the new regulations. The application for end use allowed the client to avoid paying import VAT and duty on certain goods, and the bespoke solutions that were implemented allow goods to move freely to and from offshore locations.

The processes we developed have proven to be the blueprint used by other start-up companies who are required to comply with the new customs regulations.
